A blast had by all!

We hosted our 1950s style afternoon event of entertainment and refreshments as part of the suggested theme in 2017 for National Care Home Open Day, which was ‘friendship’.
Portway Junior School were delighted to accept our invitation for their Glee Club to perform in front of our residents and staff at our event. The children treated us to songs and hymns whilst our residents enjoyed a picnic lunch with their family and friends.
Our staff dressed up in 1950s costumes and we had lovely local singer Amanda Parsons singing a number of 1950s hits! We even had the good company of the Mayor at Test Valley, Councillor Carl Borg-Neal who chatted and mingled with our residents.
Our home manager, Kay Kelly said, “It was a fantastic day and the residents had a wonderful time. The Glee Club from Portway Junior School were an absolute delight and had the voices of angels.”
“National Care Home Open Day is all about care homes making a big effort to connect with the local community and we felt we did that.”
“Many of our residents remember the 1950s well and had lots of fun laughing at us in our costumes! We would like to thank everybody, including the Mayor, for attending what was a very fun and enjoyable day.”
