Our Residents Step Up for The Race Against Dementia

In September, residents at Harrier Grange proudly took part in a sponsored walk to raise funds for The Race Against Dementia. With a shared spirit of determination and care, our residents laced up their shoes and set out to make a difference, one step at a time.
By the end of the month, the group had completed an impressive 11,130 steps, all within the comfort of our grounds and gardens. That’s quite a few laps of the garden, and perhaps a few well-earned detours to the biscuit tin along the way!
The lovely late-summer weather made it a perfect time to get outdoors. On sunny afternoons, residents enjoyed gentle strolls around the garden paths, often finishing with a refreshing ice lolly under the shade of our trees. When the rain arrived, we simply brought the fun indoors and turned the walks into cheerful treasure hunts that encouraged everyone to stay active and engaged, no matter the weather.

This sponsored walk was about more than just movement. Coming together as a home with a goal in mind sparked wonderful conversations and laughter, strengthening friendships and boosting morale across the home. Each step supported not only physical health by helping with mobility and balance, but also a deep sense of achievement. Many residents expressed pride in being part of a fundraising effort for a cause that means so much to them and their families.
Race Against Dementia is a charity close to many hearts at Harrier Grange, and this event was a beautiful reminder of the power of community and compassion. Staff and families joined in cheering residents along, celebrating their efforts with smiles, encouragement, and of course, plenty of tea and biscuits to refuel afterwards.
At Harrier Grange, we believe that staying active, socially connected, and purposeful adds so much joy to daily life. Events like this not only support wonderful charities but also bring our residents a real sense of purpose and pride.
